Dingqen means "the grand land" in Tibetan.
Dingqen County is located in the northeast of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the west of the Chamdo Prefecture. It covers an area of 11,562 square kilometres with a population of 58,000.
There are more than 10 mountains over the altitude of 5000 metres. The heighest altitude is 6328 metres above sea level.
The main mine resources are coal, plaster, gold dust, chrome and stibium, etc.
Handicrafet industry is the main industry in the County. The products include weave, pottery, carpet, pulu (woolen fabric), Tibetan costume, shoes, harness and silverware, etc.
The mileage of the roads totals 261 kilometres.
