Gongjo in Tibetan language means that the Living Buddha, Gong, settles down in the place of "Jo".
Gongjo County is located in the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region, southeast of the Chamdo County and the upper reaches of Jinsha River.
It covers an area of 6256 square kilometres, with a population of over 40,000. The average altitude is 4,021 metres above sea level.
The main mine resources are gold dust, copper, lead, zinc, salt, coal, limestone and plaster, etc.
The species of trees are mostly pine, cypress, poplar and birch, etc.
