Mangkang means "perfect and wonderful area" in Tibetan.
Mangkang County is located in the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region and southeast of Chamdo. It covers an area of 11,654 square kilometres. The heighest altitude is 6434 metres above sea level.
The main mine resources are gold, silver, lead, zinc, salt, coal, sulfur, plaster, and graphite, etc.
Agriculture and animal hunsbandry are main economic styles in Mangkang County. The total wood stock volume is 33 million cubic metres. The percentage of forest coverage is 48 percent.
Local handicraft hunsbandry is the main industry in the prefecture. Xihe Power Station was established in the year of 1985. There are other 17 small power stations in the County.
The total lengths of road is 350 kilometres.
Momco Lake, covers an area of 18 square kilometres, is regraded as the holy lake by local people.
