"Mainling" means "medicine land" in Tibetan.
Mainling County is located in the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region, at the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, and between the Nyainqentanglha Mountains and the Himalay Mountain. Mainling County has a population of 15,000, and covers an area of 9,471 square kilometres. The average altitude is 3,700 metres above sea level.
The mine resources of the county are gold dust, plaster, limestone, chromium and iron, etc.
