Lhunzhub means "a place from nature" in Tibetan language.

Lhunzhub County is located at the middle of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the upper reaches of Lhasa River.

Lhunzhub County covers an area of 4517 square kilometres with a population of 540,000.

A branch range of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains splits the county into two parts. The northern part, which is mainly composed of mountains, is very cold. Its average altitude is 4160 metres above sea level. The southern part is wide and flat. The land is mainly farmland and pastures.

Razheng Monastery in north Lhunzhub, built in the year of 1056, is a famous ancient monastery in Tibet.
