- Amnye Machen: The fourth Holiest Mountain in Tibet
About 86km (53 miles) from Maqin stands Amnye Machen (Maji Gangri). In 1929, American botanist Joseph Rock incorrectly measured its height at over 9,000m (30,000 ft.), making it (for a while) the world's highest peak. It actually comes in well short, at 6,282m (20,605 ft.)

Tibet Culture

- Animals play key role in Tibetans' lives
Customs and traditions aside, yak occupies an important place in the lives of the nomadic Tibetans. For them, yaks are so valuable that they call these animals "Norbu," meaning treasures. The yak, of course, is not the only important animal in the lives of the nomadic Tibetans. The herders love to raise sheep, and some also raise horses.

Tibet Heritage
- Evil Spirits Begone
Ringing in the New Year, Tibetan-style. Tibetans in Tibet and all over the world celebrate Tibetan New Year, or Losar, on the first day of the Tibetan calendar. This year, the celebration falls on February 9, coincidently the same day as the Chinese Spring Festival.

With booming tourism in Tibet, hotels and restaurants, along with bars, have mushroomed. From Donyiya Restaurant, east of the Chengguan Hotel, to Snowland Restaurant, covering a distance no longer than one km, there are four hotels of good scale, four restaurants/bars in various styles, and two sweetened Tibetan tea houses.
