Golmud is a city with various titles. Located along the hinterland of the Tibetan Plateau, it has the world's largest administrative area. It is also China's "Salt Lake City."
And this Saturday the city will symbolize something else. The city will attract the attention of both domestic and foreign media outlets when the first train of the Qinghai-Tibet railway leaves here for Lhasa on July 1st.
June 25th, Sunny
The interview is difficult as traditional factors hinder our formal procedures.
We left for Golmud station at 3 p.m. and had series of Tibetan dishes from a restaurant around the station for lunch.
When we reached the station, we could see the sign stating its name¡ªGolmud¡ªclearly. We also saw the other buildings around the station.
An important stopover on the way to Lhasa, Golmud station will be described and romanced by the world starting this Saturday. And then, what will become of this city? What will the Qinghai-Tibet railway bring along with it?
Great, I see a personal travel agency in the hotel facing Golmud station. Hoping to get an interview with the agency, I head over. What a wonderful thing! I find the agency on the fifth floor, with its windows facing the station. Picking up the camera, I press the record button time and time again.
The greatest thing, by far, was when a train was arrived. Thoughts filled my head as regular people filed into Golmud station to board.
