Dawa Sherpa became the world's first ever speed climber to have scaled Mt Qomolangma from the Base Camp in China's Tibet side and descended to the Base Camp in Nepal, The Himalayan Times reported on Wednesday.

The mountaineer claimed it took him 20 hours and 15 minutes to complete the mission.

Dawa began his solo climb on May 21 at 9:00 pm from the Base Camp in China's Tibet side, conquered the summit at 8:40 am on May 22 and reached the Qomolangma Base Camp at 5:15 pm local time (1130 GMT) the same day.

Sherpa, who hails from Tamakhani in Solukhumbu district in eastern Nepal, some 300 km north-east of Kathmandu, also hoisted the flags of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries atop the world's highest peak.

"I am a Nepali and I completed my mission for the country and I hope to get my feat registered in the Guinness Book of World Records," he said at a program organized by the World Peace Qomolangma Expedition 2006 here Tuesday.

He also stressed the need of peace in every nook and corner of Nepal and across the world.
