The construction of the terminal station of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Lhasa Station was completed June 20, 2006, Xinhua reported. It was the largest railway station alongside Qinghai-Tibet Railway. With its location in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, the station was built with an altitude of 3,600 meters. Photo: cnsphoto
The station is located on a plateau over 36 hundred meters above sea level, and is equipped with a solar-powered heating system as well as elevators to facilitate passengers'getting used to the altitude.
Construction of the two-thousand-kilometer-long railway was completed last October, and trains are expected to start rolling in July.
