The Qinghai-Tibet railway will make its trial run on July 1st. Passengers departing from Chongqing can now save up to 2,000 yuan if they to travel to Tibet by railway.

Tourists from Chongqing can choose between two routes: they can take a train to Xining in Qinghai province and then switch to a train heading to Tibet or they can take a bus to Chengdu and set off from there. The Chengdu route is faster and cheaper. The current cost of a trip to Tibet from Chonqing is about 5,000 yuan, which will be reduced to about 3,000 yuan when the new railway opens in July.

The Chongqing branch of the China Travel Service has devised a 12-day itinerary traveling through Chongqing, Chengdu, Lhasa, Nyingchi, and Shigatse.
