Ngari's annual average precipitation stands between 75-164mm.There is no summer.
In Shiquanhe and Burang in particular, the monthly precipitation will be 30mm at most. In Burang, the most rainfall occurs in March and August, while at other times the rainfall is less than 20mm. In Gerze, the rainfall is relatively more, mainly falling from July to August. In Ngari, the extreme low temperatures, -37 to -44 degrees occur in January. The annual average temperature is -0.1-3.2 degrees. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -44.6 degrees in Gerze on February 7, 2004.
In summer, the average temperature is between 9 and 22 degrees, the highest being 27.6 degrees in Shiquanhe on June 29 1978. In winter, there are more sunny days. The average sunshine is 3,417 hours a year. It is the driest region in Tibet.
In winter and spring, it is very windy, and on the surrounding high mountains there are snow peaks all year long.
