In the morning on August 4, 2005, the annual Shoton Festival, or the Yogurt Festival, opened at Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery on the outskirt of Lhasa, revealing the essence of traditional Tibetan culture. Shoton Festival, meaning having yogurt in Tibetan language, is one traditional religious festival with long history in Tibet. Its origin can be traced back to over 300 years ago.
