Notes for travelling to Tibet

It's a good idea to spend the first two or three days at least getting accustomed to the high altitude in Tibet.

Tibet has a special society and culture. Be sure to respect their local customs and traditions when travelling.

Try not to take photos without asking for permission. Celestial burials, prayer ceremonies and other religious ceremonies are closed to visitors and you should not desecrate such ceremonies by taking photographs.

Tibet does not have a good supply of fruit and vegetables, especially in rural areas. You are advised to supplement your diet with vitamin supplements (especially Vitamin C) and to drink plenty of bottled water.

Public transport is pretty basic (or non-existent) in Tibet and for foreigners travelling outside of Lhasa, hiring a Land Cruiser from a Lhasa travel agency is a good way to travel.
