Gaoyuan Chuancai

One block south and east of the Sakya Monastery Guesthouse, the Gaoyuan offers generous portions at decent prices. Specialties include old favorites such as mapo doufu (spicy tofu with chopped meat), yuxiang qiezi (eggplant in garlic sauce), and gongbao jiding (spicy chicken with cashews). The Sakya Monastery Restaurant is also passable, but most restaurants with English-language menus are dire.
