The height of the Qomolangma re-measured in May 2005 is 8,844.43 meters, according to source from the press conference held recently by the Information Office of the State Council. Head of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping Chen Bangzhu promulgated the latest data of this re-measurement on the press conference: altitude of apex rock surface of Qomolangma is 8844.43 meters. Chen said, this new height was authorized by the State Council and promulgated by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping according to the Surveying and Mapping Law of the People's Republic of China. The height data promulgated in 1975 was annulled.
