When a baby is born

Most Tibetan people like more children that show the growing family.

On the third day after a Tibetan boy (the fourth day for a girl) is born, the relatives and good friends carry Chang, butter tea and clothes for the child to show congratulations. At the same time, the ceremony of Pangse (to get rid of bad luck in Tibetan) is held. The ceremony of Pangse originated from the Tupo Kingdom.

In the morning, the people pick some white small stones nad pile them in front of the family where a child is born to show a boy was born. When a girl is born, the people can pick every kind of stones to pile in the front of the house. At the same time, the people burn pine branches. The guests to show congratulations sprinkle Tsampa on the stone first and then enter the host house.

When the baby is one month old, his parents will select a good day for him to go out. On that day, the mother with her child will be newly dressed, and followed by their relatives to go out. First, they to the temple to pray to the Buddha for the long life of the baby (to the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa). Then they visit the relatives. Sometimes they select some lucky family to visit to pray that the baby will have a happy family in the future. When the baby goes out for the first time, the people often put some soot on the nose of the baby, which means that the devils will find the baby when he goes out.
